London’s vegan scene is one of the best in the country. HappyCow actually voted it the most vegan city in the world in 2024, and that’s not just based on the fact there’s a Veggie Pret on every street. Seemingly.
Gone are the days of only having avocado on toast and hummus and falafel wraps. There are literally hundreds of 100% plant-vegan cafes in London, some of them doing some really creative things with their menus.
Let’s share our top nine, and I’d put money on you now discovering a new favourite.
The best vegan cafes in London
Honestly, you’ll wonder why you ever ate anything else.
1. The Fields Beneath – Kentish Town
If you're anything like me and have a major sweet tooth, The Fields Beneath is heaven.
This vegan cafe in Kentish Town serves up the flakiest croissants this side of the Channel. Seriously, these melt-in-your-mouth pastries are legendary, and you won't believe they're 100% plant-based.
I could go on about them all day.
But it's not just about the sweets – The Fields Beneath also has a killer selection of savoury treats, like their famous vegan Welsh Rarebit Croissant and smoky mushroom and celeriac remoulade sourdough baguette.
With cosy vibes, friendly staff, and amazing coffee, this place is the perfect spot for a chill brunch or coffee date.
Why go there?
To try their legendary vegan croissants (get them toasted!)
For a cosy and relaxed atmosphere
To enjoy delicious coffee and unique savoury options
Deets:
Opening times: Mon - Fri 7:30am - 4pm, Sat 8am - 5pm, Sun 9am - 5pm (check their Insta for holiday hours)
Average price: £5 - £20 per person
2. WAVE – Hackney & Stoke Newington
WAVE (We Are Vegan Everything) is a vibe. With spots in both Hackney and Stoke, this cafe is super stylish and has a mouth-watering menu, but honestly, their toasties are what I dream about at night.
Seriously, they're that good.
Toasties-aside, we’re talking a menu filled with uncomplicated, nutritious dishes like their legendary mushroom rolls, fluffy pancakes, and smoothie bowls. Don't miss their signature salted coffee and peanut butter drinks, either!
The overall vibe is relaxed and airy, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Just be aware that prices can be a bit steep, and it can get busy with people working on laptops.
Why go there?
For a sunny and relaxed atmosphere with holiday vibes
Great for co-working or remote working (laptop friendly)
To try their unique drinks, like salted coffee and peanut butter lattes
Deets:
Opening times: 8:30am - 5pm (Mon - Sat) / 10am - 4pm on Sunday
Average price: £10 - £40 per person
3. Beaten by a Whisker – Walthamstow
This isn't your average bakery. With an official philosophy of “nothing sold that isn’t delicious”, you can’t really go wrong.
We’re talking small-batch sourdough loaves, baked fresh daily, alongside decadent pastries like cardamom buns, brownies, and cookies.
For something savoury, grab one of their focaccia sandwiches – the curried cauliflower is a crowd favourite.
With minimalist decor, an open kitchen, and focus on quality ingredients, Beaten by a Whisker is the perfect spot to grab a coffee and a pastry or settle in for a leisurely brunch. Just be aware that their small-batch baking means things can sell out quickly, so get there early.
Why go there?
To try incredible vegan pastries and bread
To enjoy the minimalist and stylish atmosphere
To watch the bakers in action in their open kitchen
Deets:
Opening times: 8:30am - 4pm Monday to Friday / 9am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday

4. Bean's Cafe – Hackney Downs
This new kid on the block is already making waves in Hackney. Bean's Cafe is a fully plant-based haven with a focus on – you guessed it – beans! 🫘
But they're not just serving up boring bowls of legumes.
Think innovative dishes like bean-based breakfast sandwiches, 'salmon' bagels, and even a full "fry up" (with all the classic elements, of course).
And if you've got a sweet tooth, their pastries are a must-try. The Pain au Chocolat and Pain au Raisin are fan favourites.
With its bright, airy space, friendly staff, and delicious coffee, Bean's Cafe is the perfect spot for a relaxed brunch or a quick coffee break.

Think California rolls, crispy rice, and all your fave sushi classics, but made with innovative vegan ingredients. They even have a gorgeous private garden courtyard where you can enjoy your meal surrounded by lush greenery.
A great hideaway since this cafe is nestled in Oxford Street, which can be a bit of a crazy human circus at times.
Oh, and as a bit of an insider’s tip, they've recently extended their evening hours, so you've got even more chances to check them out.
