While everyone's fighting over vintage finds in Brick Lane and Notting Hill, London's real thrifting gems are hiding in plain sight. Really.
The best vintage pieces I've ever found weren't in the obvious spots.
There are some more-than-decent, often overlooked, neighbourhoods serving up some amazing vintage finds, designer donations, and prices that'll make you question everything you know about London thrifting.
Plus, they're actually really nice to shop in – think chill local vibes instead of tourist crowds fighting over the same Levi's jacket.
So, if you're tired of sifting through overpriced vintage in central London, here are my fave neighbourhoods that the fashion crowd has been keeping secret.
Peckham
Tucked away from the tourist trail, Peckham's indie spirit is still alive and kicking.
While most of the fashion crowd flocks to Brick Lane, locals know that Rye Lane and its backstreets hold some of South London's best-kept vintage secrets.
Don’t Miss:
One Scoop Store: Part community space, part thrifting goldmine. Curated collections change weekly.
Little Sister: An ever-evolving range of eclectic vintage for women and men – including accessories!
Peckham Salvage Yard: A huge monthly thrifting event run by Hackney Flea Market. Confusingly, not in Hackney at all. Expect vintage and secondhand everything!
Deptford
Where art students meet market traders, Deptford's raw creative energy spills into its vintage scene. The high street might look rough around the edges, but that's precisely why the prices haven't gone stratospheric yet.
Don’t Miss:
The Well: Sprawling space in an old warehouse with real bargains to be found
Deptford Market Yard: A multi-use space under the arches at Deptford Market. Loads of different vendors here, some vintage, some not!
Walthamstow
E17's vintage scene is growing faster than the property prices. The village feels like stepping back in time, while the market stretch offers proper old-school thrifting vibes without the Central London markup.
Don’t Miss:
TRAID Walthamstow: Charity selling secondhand clothes, aiming to improve workers' lives in the global textile industry.
Walthamstow Flea Market: A huge flea market with over 60 hand-picked flea and vintage traders.
The Re-Loved Club: A regular community pre-loved fashion market with car-boot vibes. The latest dates are on their website!
Tooting
South London's answer to Portobello, minus the tourist buses. Between the curry houses and classic pubs, Tooting's backstreet hides some of London’s best under-the-radar vintage spots where patience pays off big time.
Don’t Miss:
Curio Corner: Beautifully restored vintage furniture and knick-knacks for a fraction of the price.
L&T Vintage Clothing: A local fave at Tooting Market - this one-woman stall is a true hidden gem with no online presence, so you'll need to visit in person to discover her curated collection.
